Bee hotel

Library of Ideas: Make a bee or bug hotel for your garden

Invite pollinators into your garden by making a bee/ bug hotel.

Bee hotels and bug houses are great places for insects to hibernate and make a perfect nesting site for female solitary bees, including red mason bees and leafcutter bees. Attracting them to your garden is a win win, as you help to protect them and they in turn, help to get your garden growing by keeping things like aphids at bay and pollinating your flowers.

Solitary bees are not aggressive and are very unlikely to sting and unlike social bees like bumblebees and honeybees, they nest individually, laying eggs in hollow stems such as bamboo, teasel and sunflower stems.
